Birla Mandir Overview

The sparkling white structure visible through skyline of modern Hyderabad, Birla Mandir is located near Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad, atop the Kala. The Birlas had built this temple in 1976 with white marbles procured from Rajasthan. The temple is dedicated to Sri Venkateswara. The temple combines the architectural styles of Utkal (Oriya) and South Indian style. The Rajagopuram here represents South Indian architectural style while the tower over the main shrine, represents the Oriyan style. The 42-feet high sanctum sanctorum (garbha gudi) here is a replica of the famous Venkateshwara temple at Tirumala. Swami Venkateswara’s consorts Padmavati and Andal are worshipped here in adjoining separate shrines. A trip to Hyderabad is considered incomplete without Birla Mandir for the tourists visiting the city for the last three decades. The view of Birla mandir on a hillock overlooking Hussain Sagar Lake and tank bund close by is one sight that captivates the visual senses of the beholder.
